Referenda in Berlin

Like many other federal states in Germany, Berlin has considerably extended the opportunities for direct democratic participation. The Berlin State Constitution was amended in October 2006 to lower the obstacles to petitions for a referendum and the holding of referenda. Since then numerous referendum action groups have been launched and their presence has become a feature of politics in Berlin.

Sports Metropolis Berlin

We are committed to strengthening the role of sport in Berlin’s future development. In accordance with our objectives, our focus is on mass sport and its relevance to public welfare. We are currently engaged in scientifically supported projects on the importance of sport in preventive health care, as a means to promote integration and on the role of the media as multipliers to increase the broad impact of what Berlin has to offer in the way of sport.

Citizens and Schools

In the Citizens and Schools project, the Stiftung is concerned with the position of pupils and parents in the sphere of education. Society currently attaches great importance to the issue of education – and this will grow in the future. We support all efforts to strengthen the network of active parents and give it greater visibility.

Berlin - City of Foundations

Foundations are playing an increasingly important role in our free, democratic society: providing the impetus for new projects as well as managing and funding such projects. In Berlin, too, foundations are engaged in a whole range of societal tasks. A large number of prominent foundations are domiciled in Berlin or have an office here. Our Berlin – City of Foundations initiative is seeking to make Berlin more attractive to foundations and to ensure that their engagement here translates into added value for the city.
