Creativity Cluster

Cluster Kreativitaet

We believe that the creative industries have a pivotal role to play in Berlin’s future development. With the basic idea of building a cluster, we wish to explore, analyze and define how the city’s attractiveness can be strategically enhanced to ensure this sort of economic future. We are working on proposals as to how the Berlin Senate can, for its part, productively support the development of a Creative Industries Cluster and make this a priority item on its agenda.

"Berlin must set international standards in terms of the creative industries." - Catherine Mühlemann

Berlin Needs a Creative Industries Cluster

Berlin should establish itself as a global leader in the creative industries sector. The idea is to build a cluster for which the players themselves assume responsibility. There should be administrative support for the Creative Industries Cluster and a clear allocation of responsibilities.

Berlin’s economy has suffered irrecoverable losses as a result of the city’s partition and the abolition of subsidies following the fall of the Wall. We believe that the creative industries sector offers the most significant economic opportunity for Berlin’s future. That is why we are working on proposals on how to support and raise the profile of Berlin’s creative industries.

The cultural and creative industries sector is a key growth area of Berlin’s economy. Berlin’s unique blend of highbrow and off-scene culture means that the city has the potential to become Europe’s future leader in the creative industries. Berlin’s combination of cosmopolitanism, tolerance and internationality gives the city a very special atmosphere – one that exerts a strong attraction on young and creative people. Artists and creative people from all over the world come to Berlin to live and work here.

Berlin’s growing international reputation as a “creative city” has become one of the principal locational advantages in the city’s economic development.
