Berlin Conference 2025 – New Paths for Democracy: Cultural Participation as an Instrument of Democratic Resilience
Die Berlin Conference findet am 6. und 7.November 2025 in der Französischen Friedrichstadtkirche am Gendarmenmarkt und im Allianz Forum am Brandenburger Tor statt.
Europa spielt eine zentrale Rolle bei der Bewältigung der Herausforderungen einer zunehmend polarisierten und gespaltenen Welt. Bürger*innen, Städte und Regionen, nationale Regierungen sowie die Institutionen der EU verfügen jeweils über spezifische Handlungsmöglichkeiten, um sich für ein Europa einzusetzen, das kollektives und koordiniertes Handeln ermöglicht.
Wie können wir den Beitrag von Kunst und Kultur besser nutzen, um eine Seele für Europa zu schaffen und neue Wege für die Demokratie zu ebnen?
Seit über zwei Jahrzehnten bringt die Berlin Conference führende Persönlichkeiten aus Kunst und Politik aus ganz Europa im Herzen Berlins zusammen, immer rund um das symbolträchtige Datum des 9. November, um die Rolle der Kultur beim Aufbau einer demokratischen Zukunft gemeinsam zu erörtern. Auch im Jahr 2025 setzen wir diese Tradition fort, in einer Zeit, in der Demokratie und sozialer Zusammenhalt vor neuen Herausforderungen stehen.
Die Berlin Conference wird von der Stiftung Zukunft Berlin in Zusammenarbeit mit ihrer zivilgesellschaftlichen Initiative A Soul for Europe, der European Festivals Association und der Evangelischen Akademie zu Berlin organisiert und bringt Stimmen, Perspektiven und Netzwerke aus ganz Europa in einem politischen Raum des Dialogs und der Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten zusammen. Die diesjährige Konferenz konzentriert sich auf die Kraft der kulturellen Teilhabe zur Stärkung der demokratischen Resilienz. In Keynotes, Debatten und Workshops laden wir Künstler*innen, politische Entscheidungsträger*innen und Akteur*innen der Zivilgesellschaft zum Nachdenken, Austausch und gemeinsamen Gestalten ein und bieten so einen dringend benötigten Raum für Dialog – stets mit dem Ziel, Ideen in die Tat umzusetzen.

Europe has a role to play in addressing the challenges of today’s polarised and divided world. Citizens, cities and regions, national governments and EU institutions each have distinct capacities to act for a Europe in a world that needs collective and coordinated action.
How can we better harness the contribution of arts and culture to shape a soul for Europe and create new paths for democracy?
For over two decades, the Berlin Conference has brought together leading voices from the arts and politics from across Europe at the Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust memorial – around the highly symbolic date of 9 November – to explore the role of culture in building a democratic future. In 2025, we continue this tradition at a time when democracy and social cohesion face renewed and pressing challenges.
Organised by Stiftung Zukunft Berlin in cooperation with its civil society initiative A Soul for Europe, the European Festivals Association and the Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin, the Berlin Conference brings together voices, perspectives, and networks from across Europe in a political space of conversation and action shaping. This year’s conference focuses on the power of cultural participation to strengthen democratic resilience. Through keynotes, debates, and collaborative sessions, we invite artists, policymakers, and civil society actors to reflect, exchange and co-create, thus offering a much-needed space for dialogue – always with the aim of turning ideas into action.
